Snap, the social media company behind Snapchat, has released its My AI chatbot to all of its users for free. The chatbot is powered by OpenAI’s ChatGPT and was initially only available to Snapchat’s paid subscribers. It can be accessed in group chats by mentioning it with an ‘@’ symbol and users can ask questions, request creative content and receive augmented reality filter recommendations. Snap plans to further develop the chatbot to accept visuals as input.

Snap has also announced several augmented reality (AR) features. AR Mirrors will allow retail customers to virtually try on clothes in stores, while Coca-Cola is working with the company to create interactive soda machines with AR screens. Concert company Live Nation Entertainment will also use in-snap AR features at 16 music festivals, including the Governor’s Ball in New York. Snap CEO Evan Spiegel said the company has invested heavily in AR for the past eight or nine years.
