Vodafone Idea (Vi) has rolled out 5G services in Bengaluru, partnering with Samsung to enhance network performance and sustainability.
The collaboration leverages Samsung’s energy-efficient, high-power radios, including 32T32R Massive MIMO radios and advanced virtualized Radio Access Network (RAN) solutions with virtualized Central Units (vCUs), to boost network capacity while cutting power consumption.
In a pioneering move, the partnership has also introduced India’s first virtualized Base Station Controller (vBSC) for 2G services, marking a significant step in modernizing telecom infrastructure.
Vi’s Chief Technology Officer, Jagbir Singh, emphasized the importance of the launch, stating, “The rollout of 5G in Bengaluru, alongside Chandigarh and Patna, strengthens our partnership with Samsung and enhances our ability to deliver seamless, high-capacity mobile broadband to meet the demands of today’s digital world.”

The Bengaluru launch follows successful 5G deployments in Chandigarh and Patna in April 2025. The Vi-Samsung partnership, established last year, has already upgraded 2G and 4G networks in regions like Bihar, Karnataka, and Punjab.
Woojune Kim, President and Head of Networks Business at Samsung Electronics, highlighted Bengaluru’s role in global digital innovation, saying, “We are proud to support Vi in delivering next-generation connectivity in one of the world’s most dynamic IT markets. Samsung is committed to driving enterprise growth and meeting the evolving needs of mobile users through innovative solutions.”
