Vertiv, a global leader in critical digital infrastructure, has named Paul Ryan as its new president for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA), effective January 1, 2026. Ryan, currently the chief procurement officer, will succeed Karsten Winther, who will retire from the role on December 31, 2025, after a distinguished tenure.
Winther’s leadership has been pivotal in strengthening Vertiv’s EMEA operations. “Karsten has made impactful contributions, navigating complex market dynamics with strong leadership and a passion for growth,” said CEO Giordano Albertazzi.
Winther, who progressed from regional sales to executive leadership, drove business strategy, operational excellence, and profitability across the region. He will remain in his role through 2025 to ensure a smooth transition.
Paul Ryan brings over 20 years of industry experience to the position, including eight years as Vertiv’s chief procurement officer and vice president of global procurement and supply chain. During this time, he transformed the procurement function, enhanced supply chain resilience, improved service levels, and fostered a culture of innovation.

Ryan’s prior roles at Emerson Network Power (now Vertiv) included vice president of operations for EMEA, vice president and managing director for Asia Pacific, and vice president of global operations and supply chain for data center solutions.
“Paul’s extensive experience, commercial acumen, and proven track record in global execution make him the ideal leader to build on our EMEA foundation,” Albertazzi said. “His internal succession reflects Vertiv’s high-performance culture and his ability to drive continued growth.”
Ryan holds a bachelor’s degree in production management and a master’s degree in science from the University of Limerick, as well as completing the executive development program at Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management.
Effective immediately, Patrick Grainey has been appointed acting chief procurement officer, reporting to Albertazzi, while Vertiv begins recruiting for the permanent role.
