TelCables Nigeria, a subsidiary of Angola Cables, has announced the establishment of a new point of presence (PoP) at the Lagos Rack Centre facility. This expansion is aimed at enhancing low-latency interconnectivity and cloud access across West Africa, reinforcing the region’s digital infrastructure.
Fernando Fernandes, CEO of TelCables Nigeria and West Africa, highlighted the strategic importance of the move. “The new PoP at Rack Centre represents a crucial step towards strengthening the digital infrastructure of West Africa, providing faster, more reliable internet access to local enterprises, government institutions, and individuals by localising traffic,” he stated.
The new facility leverages Angola Cables’ extensive backbone network, including direct connections to the South Atlantic Cable System (SACS) and West Africa Cable System (WACS). These subsea cable systems enable efficient routing of data traffic to South America, the US, and Europe via the EllaLink cable, providing options for standard or redundant routing.
Expanding Regional Infrastructure
Since entering the West African market in November 2022, TelCables has been a key player in providing ICT solutions. The Lagos PoP follows a similar expansion earlier this year, when TelCables South Africa launched a PoP at Teraco’s data center in Durban.
Rack Centre, a Tier III carrier- and cloud-neutral data center established in 2012, currently houses over 68 telecommunication carriers, ISPs, and global Tier 1 networks. According to Rack Centre CEO Lars Johannisson, the ongoing expansion of its Lagos campus, including the addition of the LGS 2 Data Centre, will further bolster regional capacity.

“Once completed, operators like TelCables, hyperscalers, businesses, telecom operators, and service providers will have access to world-class carrier and cloud-neutral infrastructure to securely scale their digital operations, ultimately fostering economic growth in Nigeria and the West Africa region,” Johannisson said. The expanded facility will feature 13.5MW of IT power and 7,200 square meters of space, with advanced capabilities to support artificial intelligence (AI) applications.
A Vision for Collaborative Growth
Angola Cables operates a submarine cable network spanning over 33,000km through WACS, SACS, and MONET systems, and extends services to more than 50,000km through partnerships. The company supports over 30 PoPs, connects to 66 data centers, and maintains 6,000 peering agreements across the Americas, Africa, Europe, and Asia.
Fernandes emphasized the importance of partnerships in building resilient digital infrastructure. “Our collaboration with Rack Centre is part of a greater vision. Together, we are setting the right course for Africa’s future prosperity as a contributor to the rapidly evolving digital economy,” he said.
The Lagos PoP marks another milestone in TelCables’ efforts to enhance digital connectivity and drive economic growth across the West African region.
