Highly rated tech magazine, TechBerg has unveiled Gwynne Shotwell, the President and Chief Executive Officer of SpaceX as its Woman in Tech Wednesday (WTW).
WTW, one of the most high-profile tech personality ratings is a weekly review and rating of female tech personalities across the globe. It’s a special publication based on critical analysis and facts in the tech space.
Gwynne Shotwell is businesswoman and an engineer. She has worked in both space systems, engineering and project management and was the director of the space systems division at Microcosm Inc.
Her tech journey began during her encounter at a panel discussion hosted by the Society of Women Engineers. This triggered her interest in engineering. She then proceeded to Northwestern University; where she had her BSc in mechanical engineering.
Gwynne Shotwell is currently the president and C.E.O of SpaceX, a commercial space exploration company founded by Elon Musk, where she’s managing the day-to-day running of the company in order to support the company’s growth.
She joined SpaceX in 2002 and has led the company into having over 10,000 employees, and a valuation of $74 billion. Also, astronauts were sent to the International Space Station by the company for the first time as part of the multibillion-dollar contract with NASA.
Shotwell was among the top 100 most influential people in the world as listed by Times and the 38th most powerful woman in the world in 2021 according to Forbes.
During her career, she has received several honors among which are: Induction into the Women in Technology International Hall of Fame In 2012, Satellite Executive of the Year in 2017 and Forbes’ America’s Top 50 Women in Tech in 2018.
Gwynne Shotwell was born in Evanston, Illinois and raised in Libertyville, Illinois. She is married to Robert Shotwell. Who works as an engineer at NASA’S Jet Propulsion Laboratory.
