Safaricom, a leading telecommunications company in Kenya, has partnered with the Lake Region Economic Bloc (LREB) to drive digital transformation and spur growth in 14 counties located in the lake regions of the country. This collaboration aims to accelerate the adoption of technology in the region and promote development at the county level. Safaricom has already established similar partnerships with Nairobi City County, Elgeyo Marakwet and Makueni.
Under the initiative known as myCounty App, various projects will be implemented to digitize the counties, provide innovative solutions, offer secure technology and make positive social impact through Safaricom’s Social Good Investments in the LREB counties. The specific initiatives include providing connectivity to county sites, bridging the digital divide among citizens, establishing a digital superhighway through fiber connectivity, facilitating revenue and healthcare management, offering public Wi-Fi access, providing eSubsidy/vouchers for services, ensuring secure communication for employees, safeguarding citizen data and offering cybersecurity measures. These efforts will be focused on the 14 counties within the LREB region.
