Formerly known as Twitter, social media giant X has introduced a new feature that lets paid users hide their verification checkmarks. The Twitter Blue relaunch last year brought paid verification to subscribers, offering premium features for enhanced engagement.
While verified accounts are traditionally seen as symbols of authenticity and credibility, X has taken a unique approach by empowering paid subscribers to control their online presence. This aligns with the company’s commitment to personalized user experiences.
By choosing this service, users can hide their verification checkmarks, enjoying the benefits of their subscription while maintaining a lower profile. Some exceptions may still display the checkmark, though specific details are undisclosed.

The feature was hinted at in March by app reverse engineer Alessandro Paluzzi, who revealed Twitter’s work on hiding checkmarks with ID verification. Some users have expressed concerns about privacy and its alignment with Twitter Blue subscribers’ desires.
Users can easily access this control in the “Profile customization” section of their account settings. X’s decision sets a precedent for other platforms to consider user-focused features, reflecting its forward-thinking approach to the industry and dedication to allowing users to curate their online presence according to their preferences.
