Omantel, the leading provider of integrated telecommunication services in Oman, has announced a partnership with Wingu Group’s Djibouti Data Centre. The move aims to help Omantel expand into the African market and strengthen its position as a regional wholesale hub. Wingu Group’s Djibouti Data Center is the only carrier-neutral data center facility in East Africa, offering access to major international fiber optic systems connecting Europe, the Middle East, Asia Pacific and Africa.
Through its Point of Presence (POP) in Djibouti, Omantel will create new wholesale partnerships with operators and hyperscalers. It will also facilitate better commercial models, leading to business growth and better customer support for connectivity requests to and from Africa. Omantel’s Vice President of the Wholesale Business Unit, Sohail Qadir, stated that the partnership presents a “great opportunity to solidify our presence in Africa” and “fulfill our wholesale vision: from Oman to the world”.
