Open Access Data Centres (OADC), Africa’s fastest-growing data centre company, has completed the strategic acquisition of seven NTT DATA data centres in South Africa, significantly expanding its national footprint and boosting its total capacity to over 25 megawatts.
The transaction, finalised on 31 December 2025 following approval by the Competition Commission, adds seven facilities to OADC’s portfolio. The company, which operates in South Africa, Nigeria, and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), further strengthens its “core-to-edge” proposition to meet rising demand for digital services across Southern Africa.

Dr Ayotunde (Tunde) Coker, CEO of OADC, described the deal as transformative.
“This acquisition represents a significant step forward in expanding our ability to deliver scalable, resilient colocation solutions where they are needed. It strengthens our market value proposition, positioning OADC as a critical partner in growing Africa’s digital economy. We can provide clients with a wider range of comprehensive resilience solutions, delivering geographically separated primary and disaster recovery data centre infrastructure for their businesses.”
He added:
“Looking ahead beyond the immediate expansion of our operational presence, OADC plans on enhancing all of its data centres as part of its continuous facility enhancement process, bringing the introduction of advanced operational measures to ensure peak efficiency and reliability.”

The agreement sees OADC acquire the facilities—previously operated by Internet Solutions (IS)—and lease them back to NTT DATA South Africa. Under the arrangement, NTT DATA will remain the primary client interface and continue delivering services from the facilities, while OADC assumes responsibility for day-to-day data centre operations.
Martin Springer, Senior Director: Infrastructure Solutions for NTT DATA in South Africa, said:
“NTT DATA’s local strategy is to streamline its portfolio by divesting noncore, asset-heavy operations and sharpening its focus on integrated technology and managed colocation services.”
He assured clients of continuity:
“For NTT DATA clients, this transition is designed to be seamless. Services will continue without disruption and client engagement channels remain unchanged.”
Joshua Smythwood, WIOCC Group Chief Strategy & M&A Officer, framed the move within a broader continental strategy.
“This acquisition is a clear step in WIOCC Group’s wider Pan-Africa digital infrastructure strategy of expanding its data centre and connectivity business and specifically in OADC’s commitment to expand high-quality, carrier-neutral data centre infrastructure in South Africa. By assuming ownership and day-to-day operations of these facilities, we enable NTT DATA South Africa to sharpen its focus on client delivery, while OADC ensures resilient, scalable and future-ready data centre operations.”
The agreement does not affect NTT DATA’s Global Data Centre (GDC), Johannesburg 1, which continues to operate as usual. NTT DATA reiterated its commitment to delivering high-quality colocation, hosting, and managed services while supporting clients’ digital transformation and cloud initiatives.
The acquisition underscores OADC’s long-term vision to strengthen Africa’s digital ecosystem, drive economic growth, and position itself as a pivotal enabler of connectivity and technological advancement across the continent.
