Nokia has announced a strategic partnership with Extreme Broadband (EBB) and its subsidiary, Open DC, to modernize AI data centers across Malaysia.
The collaboration aims to enhance performance, security, and scalability, positioning EBB and Open DC as leaders in the nation’s digital infrastructure landscape.
The initiative supports Malaysia’s National Cloud Computing Policy and meets the stringent demands of the banking and financial services sector. Nokia will deploy its advanced Data Center Fabric, Data Center Gateway, and quantum-safe networking technologies, alongside energy-efficient 7250 and 7220 Interconnect Routers, to ensure sustainable, secure, and scalable data center operations.
“This collaboration reflects our commitment to pioneering technologies that drive economic growth under Malaysia’s MYDIGITAL policy,” said Wong Weng Yew, Managing Director at Open DC. “Nokia’s solutions will bolster our security and scalability, enabling us to create connectivity hubs that foster AI-driven innovation and unlock new revenue streams for enterprises.”
Nokia’s IP network solutions will connect six Open DC facilities, including CJ1 Cyberjaya, JB1 Menara MSC Cyberport, JB2 Menara Ansar in Johor Bahru, PE1 Menara Suntech, PE2 Bayan Lepas Industrial Park in Penang, and the upcoming D8-1 site in Kedah. These deployments aim to deliver highly reliable and secure networks, aligning with EBB’s vision of “Innovating Connectivity” and Open DC’s goal of establishing strategic connectivity hubs nationwide.

Additionally, Nokia and EBB have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on data center solutions and quantum-safe networks. The agreement includes joint go-to-market strategies for AI and data center connectivity, offering services such as enterprise connectivity, multi-cloud integration, and Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) protection. The companies will also conduct testing and validation of Nokia’s Data Center Gateway, Data Center Fabric with Event-Driven Automation (EDA) tools, and DDoS security solutions.
Nokia’s growing expertise in the data center sector is evident in its global partnerships and focus on automation and connectivity. The company anticipates strong sales growth in its Network Infrastructure, Cloud, and Network Services segment in 2025, with stable net sales expected from its Mobile Networks segment.
“Nokia is a trusted partner for data center operators worldwide, delivering secure, high-performance networks,” said Kent Wong, Vice President and Head of IP Networks for Asia Pacific at Nokia. “This partnership with Extreme Broadband will strengthen Malaysia’s rapidly expanding data center industry, empowering operators with unmatched reliability and scalability.”
