The Director General of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Kashifu Inuwa, has said that digital transformation and regulation are inseparable in Nigeria’s rapidly evolving dissing that effective regulation must evolve alongside technological innovation.
Inuwa made this known while receiving the Director General of the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), Mr. Charles Ebuebu, during a meeting aimed at exploring strategic partnerships and stronger regulatory frameworks across Nigeria’s media and technology sectors.
He emphasised that digital transformation is not a one-off initiative but a continuous journey that demands constant improvement, periodic target-setting and organisational adaptability to emerging realities.

According to him, NITDA deliberately embarked on a transformational journey to reposition itself from a traditional civil service structure into a high-velocity, smart public sector organisation capable of responding to the demands of a digital economy.
“NITDA’s approach to digital transformation was anchored on three core pillars: people, processes and technology. No matter how advanced technology may be, it cannot deliver value without the right people and efficient processes in place,” Inuwa said.
He explained that the agency’s transformation drive was designed to empower staff at all levels to freely contribute ideas, constructively challenge existing processes and engage in both horizontal and vertical collaboration without fear of reprisal.
Providing further insights, Inuwa noted that technology deployment at NITDA is deliberately driven by business value rather than trend adoption, stressing that technology must support clearly defined processes and organisational objectives to deliver meaningful impact.
He also disclosed that the agency has developed a comprehensive digital transformation playbook documenting lessons learned from its reform journey, adding that NITDA is willing to share the playbook with the NBC and other government institutions to support broader public sector digital reforms.
The engagement, he said, reflects NITDA’s commitment to fostering inter-agency collaboration and aligning regulatory approaches to ensure Nigeria’s digital ecosystem remains innovative, well-regulated and sustainable.
