The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has extended the 5G roll out deadline for Mafab Communications to January 23, 2023 due to the delay in receiving its Unified Access Service Licence and Numbering plan.
The launch date was expected to commence on August 24, 2022 as set by the NCC after MTN and Mafab Communications emerged winners of the 3.5GHz spectrum licence for the deployment of 5G technology in Nigeria last December is being delayed as a result of late issuance of UASL to Mafab Communications.
A statement issued by Mafab, reads “In line with the conditions of the 5G licence, the licensees were expected to commence the rollout of 5G services effective from August 24, 2022. However, Mafab has been issued a five-month extension following delays in receiving its UASL and Numbering plan, which did not happen until the end of July”.
Dr. Mushabu Bashir the Chairman Mafab Communications Limited, speaks on the benefit of launching the 5G service and the offers it has for Nigerians.
“We are fully committed to bringing the benefits of 5G services to Nigerians and deploying a network that will drive economic development with increased broadband capabilities nationwide. I have no doubt that the service will help deliver improvements in the fields of education, business, smart cities and entertainment,” he said.
5G will provide a platform for free of communication and connectivity between devices. Also, the cost of 5G devices may become more expensive as compared to previous.
