Mobily, a leading Technology, Media, and Telecom (TMT) company in Saudi Arabia, has partnered with Telecom Egypt, a major telecom operator and subsea cable provider, to lay the first Saudi submarine cable connecting Saudi Arabia and Egypt.
The new subsea cable, wholly owned by Mobily, will traverse the Red Sea, creating a direct link between the two nations and offering expanded connectivity options for Europe.
The cable, part of Mobily’s broader expansion of subsea cable systems, aims to support increasing telecommunications traffic and rising demand for internet services both locally and internationally.
It will land at strategic locations on the Red Sea, including Sharm El Sheikh in Egypt and Duba in Saudi Arabia, enabling Mobily to connect the Arabian Gulf and neighboring regions to Egypt via its extensive digital corridors.
This infrastructure expansion is integral to Mobily’s long-term strategy of enhancing its global network. Building on prior investments in subsea cable systems, the new cable will connect Saudi Arabia to Europe through Egypt, enhancing the company’s international connectivity and capacity.
Mobily’s CEO, Salman Bin Abdulaziz Al-Badran, highlighted the strategic importance of the new cable in line with Saudi Vision 2030, stating, “The new cable represents a significant milestone in strengthening Saudi Arabia’s position as a leading international hub for telecommunications services and data traffic.
The signing of this agreement reinforces our commitment to infrastructure expansion, improving communication flexibility between the Middle East and Europe. Our partnership with Telecom Egypt will enable us to offer top-tier services to customers worldwide.”
