Makueni County government has partnered with Safaricom PLC to launch the MyCounty App. The platform will allow residents to access government services online, including paying for licenses, revenue collection, parking fees and land payments, without the need to visit government offices. The launch was witnessed by Makueni Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jnr and Safaricom CEO Peter Ndegwa, who signed an MOU to support the transformation of the County.

Governor Mutula said that the platform would address inequalities, inefficiencies and inaccessibility of government services, which have impacted negatively on the lives of Makueni residents for a long time. He noted that the platform would promote transparency, visibility, accountability and inclusivity, which would foster confidence in the government’s operations. The platform would also reduce the use of paperwork and promote digitization to conserve the environment and transplant long-term cost benefits.
Through the MyCounty App, the Governor said he would provide a level playing field for all members of society, as citizens could hold the government accountable and participate in the decision-making process. Safaricom CEO Ndegwa said that the platform would connect residents to opportunities and knowledge and curb middlemen who exploit Wananchi while pursuing government services. He added that the technology would be extended to the 47 counties across the country to improve the way customers and society experience services in their lives.
