Kenyan digital payment platform, iPay, has teamed up with Visa to introduce Tap Ulipe, a technology that simplifies digital payments for merchants and customers.
The solution is integrated into a portable MobiGo 2 device and allows merchants to accept contactless payments without investing in POS machines.
iPay serves over 10,000 merchants and the move is part of its long-term strategy to provide the latest advancements in digital payment technology. Merchants can use the Tap to Ulipe app on their Near Field Communication-enabled smartphones to accept contactless payments.
Visa Kenya Country Manager Eva Ngigi-Sarwari said the partnership between iPay and Visa Kenya would be a game changer for merchants. This is because Tap to Phone technology allows businesses to offer contactless payments, giving customers peace of mind and encouraging repeat purchases. It is a powerful tool that helps small businesses thrive in the digital landscape.
Merchants can apply for the device on the iPay website to access Tap Ulipe technology, which has benefits such as minimal settlement fees, faster transaction settlements, easy-to-use technology with no maintenance, and access to credit and working capital.
Additionally, applicants who take up the MobiGo 2 device during phase one of the roll-out will receive a free fee.
