Mastercard has announced its partnership with Google to introduce Google Pay in Kuwait, enabling Android users to make contactless payments in stores and online. The move aligns with Kuwait Vision 2035’s objective to increase the adoption of high-security digital payments. The launch also prioritises the security and privacy of payment information, with virtual card numbers used for transactions.
Erdem Çakar, Country Manager of Kuwait and Qatar for Mastercard, stated that they are pleased to collaborate with Google in driving digital inclusion in Kuwait through the introduction of Google Pay. The launch increases the range of contactless payment options available to the country’s citizens and Google Pay balances convenience with security to offer peace of mind.

Mastercard aims to bring one billion individuals and 50 million micro and small businesses into the digital economy by 2025. The latest Mastercard New Payments Index 2022 reports that 64% of MENA consumers have increased their usage of digital payment methods in the past year.
Jenny Cheng, Google Wallet’s Vice President and General Manager, said that the introduction of Google Wallet in Kuwait last year aimed to provide secure digital wallets to as many people as possible. Cheng expressed her excitement at the expansion of their offering to Kuwait and the variety of ways users can use Google Wallet throughout their day, including tap and pay on public transit and saving mobile tickets for shows or boarding passes.
