A consortium of the world’s leading telecom operators, including América Móvil, AT&T, Bharti Airtel, Deutsche Telekom, Orange, Reliance Jio, Singtel, Telefonica, Telstra, T-Mobile, Verizon, and Vodafone, has partnered with Ericsson to create a new venture aimed at revolutionizing network Application Programming Interfaces (APIs).
This global initiative seeks to streamline access to network capabilities, accelerating digital innovation across industries.
Network APIs allow developers to easily access and utilize advanced network functions, historically unavailable or too complex to integrate across different telecom operators. The new company aims to unify these APIs globally, enabling developers to build applications that work seamlessly across various networks.
The initiative, supported by key players like Vonage and Google Cloud, will grant developers access to APIs through industry-standard CAMARA APIs.
This move is expected to drive innovation across sectors such as finance, where APIs could enhance anti-fraud measures and video streaming platforms could dynamically adjust video quality based on device status.
Telecom operators will provide their network expertise, while Ericsson’s platform will ensure a global, interoperable system. The venture, set to launch in 2025 pending regulatory approval, will be equally owned by Ericsson and the telecom providers. Additional operators, such as Three Sweden, are already in talks to join.
Key industry leaders have expressed enthusiasm about the venture. Daniel Hajj, CEO of América Móvil, hailed it as an opportunity to create value-added services for customers, while AT&T’s CTO Jeremy Legg described it as a “global toolbox” for app developers.

CEOs from companies like Deutsche Telekom, Orange, and Reliance Jio echoed the excitement, emphasizing the potential for this platform to transform the telecom sector by driving growth, innovation, and new revenue streams.
Ericsson’s President and CEO, Börje Ekholm, called the venture a “defining moment” for the industry, as it aims to unlock new monetization opportunities. The collaboration is based on the GSMA Open Gateway principles, ensuring an open and non-discriminatory platform for all participants.
The venture promises to usher in a new era of digital services, empowering developers globally and shaping the future of the telecom industry.
