Ghana’s Ministry of Communications and Digitalisation is set to unveil the re/Start initiative in collaboration with the Smart Africa Digital Academy (SADA) and Amazon Web Services (AWS). The launch of this digital skills program, aimed at enhancing the employability and entrepreneurial capacities of Ghanaian youth in emerging technologies, will take place on Tuesday, November 14, 2023, at the Ghana-Indian Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in ICT (GI-KACE) in Accra.
Guest expected to grace the occasion include the Minister of Communications and Digitalisation, Hon. Ursula Owusu-Ekuful; the Director-General of GI-KACE, Mr. Kwasi Adu-Gyan; the Country Director of SADA, Mr. Eric Akumiah; and the Regional Manager of AWS, Mr. Tony Mwai.
The re/Start initiative will deliver free online and offline training courses covering cloud computing, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and other emerging technologies to youth, unemployed or underemployed individuals, persons with disabilities (PWDs), and furloughed workers, irrespective of their technology background. Additionally, the program will provide mentorship, career guidance, and job placement opportunities, with participants receiving internationally recognized certifications upon completion.
This 8-month project will involve participants from various areas, including Accra, Kumasi, Bolga, and Sunyani. As part of the initiative, AWS Cloud Training currently underway in Sunyani and Accra will be extended for an additional 3 months, providing hands-on training in AWS.
According to Hon. Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, the re/Start initiative aligns with the government’s agenda to equip the workforce with 21st-century skills and foster the creation of businesses and jobs in the digital economy. This initiative is poised to bridge the digital skills gap, promoting digital inclusion and innovation in Ghana. The re/Start initiative is open to all interested individuals who meet the eligibility criteria, have access to a computer and internet connection, and the application window opens on the launch day.
