Ghana’s National Communications Authority (NCA) has announced the reinstatement of the Digital Television Receiver Conformance Regime, which mandates that all Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT) and Digital Satellite Television (DTH) receivers, must undergo a conformance test and acquire certification before being sold in the country.
Consumers are advised to look for specific conformance logos on all receivers, including set-top boxes and integrated digital TV sets, sold in Ghana. These logos come in two types: standard definition (SD) and high definition (HD), providing clarity on the quality of the receiver. Additionally, the NCA stressed that the logos must be attached to both the receiver and its packaging.
On its website, NCA reassured consumers that receivers bearing the previous digital Ghana logo with the thumb symbol, which were already in the market before the reinstatement of the regime, remain valid. These logos serve as indicators that the receivers have passed the required conformance tests for Ghanaian standards.
In light of these developments, the NCA encourages the public to be vigilant in checking for these logos when purchasing digital TV receivers, as they serve as assurance of compliance with Ghanaian regulations. By following these standards, both manufacturers and consumers help enhance Ghana’s digital television ecosystem.
The NCA has unveiled updated guidelines for these receivers, which outline the specifications necessary for receiving terrestrial or satellite television programs.
