To address Ghana’s ongoing network disruption, the National Communications Authority (NCA) convened a face-to-face meeting with representatives from all four subsea cable landing service providers, namely ACE, MainOne, SAT-3, and WACS, alongside the three major mobile network operators, AT, MTN, and Telecel.
The gathering, attended by top management figures from these entities, served as a platform for updates on the disruption which began last week, and discussions regarding the path forward. It was disclosed that mobile network operators and subsea cable landing service providers are actively collaborating with international partners in the sub-region to enhance data service capacity progressively.
Reports from the subsea cable landing service providers revealed that they have remotely pinpointed the approximate locations of the damage and are preparing to dispatch repair vessels for physical assessment and restoration. A timeframe of a minimum of five weeks has been given for full-service restoration has been projected.
Recognising the adverse impact of the disruptions on various sectors including the economy, academia, and social activities, the NCA reassured the public of its commitment to collaborate closely with relevant stakeholders. It anticipates some improvement in data services in the coming days as operators intensify efforts to restore full connectivity.
