Equinix, Inc., the world’s digital infrastructure company, has announced a $22 million investment to open a new high-performance data center in Lagos.
The facility, named LG3 and set to launch in the first quarter of 2026, represents the first phase of an ambitious, multi-year investment plan totaling approximately $100 million.
The new data center is poised to provide critical infrastructure for Nigeria’s rapidly expanding digital ecosystem, enabling local businesses to scale efficiently and attracting international companies to the West African hub.
A key feature of the Lagos launch will be the incorporation of Equinix Fabric, a sophisticated connectivity platform. This service will allow businesses in Nigeria to securely and instantly connect their digital infrastructure to a global network of cloud providers, partners, and other Equinix data centers worldwide.
“LG3 marks a significant milestone in Equinix’s long-term commitment to bridging Africa’s digital divide,” said Wole Abu, Managing Director for West Africa at Equinix.
“As Lagos emerges at the crossroads of talent, innovation, and global connectivity, this facility is accelerating access to technologies like cloud, AI, and the next wave of startups. We’re not just building data centers; we’re fostering growth and laying the groundwork for an interconnected African economy ready to lead on the global stage.”
The investment targets a high-growth market. Nigeria is the second-largest economy in Sub-Saharan Africa and boasts a young, tech-savvy population. Lagos, recognized as the only African city in the Global Top 100 Startup Ecosystems, is widely seen as the epicenter of the continent’s digital transformation.

Local business leaders welcomed the development. Olawale Owoeye, Managing Director at Cedarview, stated, “Equinix’s Lagos data center will provide us with the robust and resilient platform our customers demand. The unparalleled reliability and access to a global ecosystem empower us to deliver high-performance solutions… ensuring we remain at the forefront of businesses connecting Africa.”
This expansion into Nigeria is part of Equinix’s broader strategic push into key African markets, which began in 2022 with entries into Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire, followed by the opening of a data center in Johannesburg, South Africa, last year.
“Africa’s digital transformation is accelerating, driven by a young population, rising internet access, and increasing demand for secure data infrastructure,” said Aslıhan Güreşcier, Vice President, EMEA Growth & Emerging Markets at Equinix. “With the opening of our newest data center in Lagos, Equinix is proud to invest in this dynamic region, supporting our customers’ growth with world-class data centers that power everything from banking and education to emergency services and commerce.”
