Digital Realty, the world’s largest provider of cloud- and carrier-neutral data centers, has officially opened its inaugural facility in Ghana, a major milestone in the company’s African expansion.
The new Accra data center, known as ACR2, is strategically located in the capital’s digital corridor, surrounded by dense fiber networks and with direct on-ramps to the 2Africa subsea cable system – one of the largest submarine cable projects ever deployed on the continent.
With an initial 1.7 MW of IT capacity, ACR2 is designed to serve as a high-connectivity hub for enterprises, financial institutions, telecommunications operators, cloud providers, and government entities across Ghana and the wider West African region.

“Enterprises no longer have to choose between staying compliant with local data regulations and accessing world-class performance,” said Joseph Koranteng, Managing Director of Digital Realty Ghana. “ACR2 delivers both – right here in the heart of Accra.”
The facility places special emphasis on data sovereignty, enabling banks, fintech companies, and public-sector organizations to host sensitive workloads locally while maintaining seamless global interconnection. Koranteng described the center as “the same tier of infrastructure you would find in London, Amsterdam, or Johannesburg – but without ever leaving Ghana.”

The launch marks the latest addition to Digital Realty’s PlatformDIGITAL®, a global infrastructure platform that now spans six continents. In Africa, the company already operates major hubs in Kenya, South Africa, and Nigeria.
Industry observers say ACR2 arrives at a pivotal moment for Ghana’s digital economy, as the country accelerates financial-sector digitization, mobile-money growth, and cloud adoption.
“From banking to fintech to telcos, our goal is simple: keep data secure locally while keeping businesses globally connected,” Koranteng added.
With the opening of ACR2, Digital Realty has reaffirmed its long-term commitment to powering Africa’s digital transformation through locally hosted, globally connected infrastructure that drives innovation, attracts investment, and promotes digital inclusion across the region.
