Y’ello Women at the Top
In honour of International Women’s Day, Digital Economy Magazine profiled the Y’ello Women at the top at MTN. It is a compilation of women, changing the narrative within MTN operations across Africa.
The “Y’ello women at the top”, aims to recognize and appreciate the contributions of women at MTN; whose immense contributions have propelled the growth of the Telecom Giant into becoming the largest mobile network in Africa.
As of December 2022, MTN recorded 280 million subscribers, making it the 8th largest mobile network operator in the world, and the largest in Africa. This list cuts across various professions such as HR, Marketing, Technology, Customer Experience, Finance, etc., and are shattering glass ceilings in the tech company.
Indeed, MTN Group is not just embracing equity but is leading the way in gender diversity and inclusion evidenced by the increased representation of Women on its board and management teams.


Tsholofelo Molefe
Group Chief Financial Officer
Ms. Molefe assumed the role of Chief Financial Officer of MTN Group Limited in April 2021. She joined MTN Group Limited from Telkom SA SOC Limited where she held the positions of Deputy Chief Financial Officer as well as Group Risk and Compliance Officer, prior to her appointment as the Group Chief Financial officer in 2018.
Before joining Telkom, Ms. Molefe was employed as a Finance Director of Eskom Holdings SOC Limited (Africa’s largest electricity utility) and an Executive Director of the company’s main board. She also held various other roles at Eskom Holdings. In addition to her extensive telecommunications industry experience, Ms. Molefe has also worked in the banking and financial services sector.

Nompilo Morafo
Group Chief Sustainability and Corporate Affairs Officer, MTN Group
Nompilo assumed the role of Group Chief Sustainability & Corporate Affairs officer of the MTN Group in February 2022. She is responsible for the creation of shared value and the integration of Environmental, Social and Governances (ESG) practices at the core of MTN’s business, including the management of MTN’s reputation-through coordination of sustainability, corporate communication, stakeholder engagement and corporate social investments (MTN Foundations)) across its footprint.
Nompilo joined MTN in 2019 from Lafarge Holcim in South Africa, where she was the country director for Communications, Public Affairs and Sustainable Development. Prior to this, Nompilo was a Vice President for Sasol’s International Exploration and Production business spanning across various countries, based in Mozambique.

Yolanda Cuba
Vice President: Southern and East Africa (SEA), MTN Group
Ms. Yolanda Cuba is the Vice President SEA region of the MTN Group, she was appointed for this role in January 2020.
Prior to this, she was the CEO of Vodafone Ghana and former Group Chief Strategy Officer for strategy, new business and M&A at Vodacom Group covering South Africa, Tanzania, Mozambique, DRC and Lesotho. Ms. Cuba comes with a wealth of experience in telecoms, financial services and fast-moving consumer goods amongst others. Her work experience which spans over 20 years started in corporate finance and transitioned to operational management in diversified industries.
She was one of the youngest CEOs of a JSE-listed company at the age of 29 years and has been recognised as CEO/Business personality of the year by multiple platforms over the years.

Lele Modise
Group Chief Legal and Regulatory Officer, MTN Group
Lele Modise is the Group Chief Legal and Regulatory Affairs Officer (CLRO) at MTN Group Limited (MTN), she joined MTN Group in August 2019.
Lele leads the Legal and the Regulatory Affairs function across Africa and the Middle East in respect of various key transactions and projects (including mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance and restructurings, investments, disposals, joint ventures), key litigation and dispute resolution, regulatory matters including operational aspects relating to licence renewals, applications and spectrum acquisitions. Lele also leads MTN’s industry advocacy programmes, and engagements with regulators, ministries, and industry bodies, in respect of legislative and policy developments.
Lele holds a B.Proc, LLB from the University of Pretoria, and Masters in Banking Law (LLM) from the University of South Africa.

Bernice Samuels
MTN Group Executive: Marketing
Ms. Bernice Samuels is the Group Executive Marketing Officer for MTN; with over twenty years working experience
She is a key driver behind the development and success of well-known corporate brands in Africa. Bernice was previously Chief Marketing Officer in MTN SA.
Prior to joining MTN, she was in a similar role at First National Bank SA. She subsequently assumed the position of Executive Director of Strategy and Business Development at SABMiller in South Africa. Bernice is repositioning product development and uplifting the MTN brand to maintain its preeminent position in Africa and the Middle East, whilst adapting to a rapidly evolving sector. since 2017.

Eliane Houphouet - Boigny
CEO, MTN Guinea Bissau
Elaine Houphouet was appointed in the year 2021 as CEO of MTN Guinea Bissau. She has over 25 years of cumulative working experience and is a highly organized and resourceful business partner. She has a proven track record in building relationships based on mutual trust and benefits and the ability to draw from and leverage extensive people development and process improvement experience.
Prior to joining MTN, she had worked in various leadership roles at Nestle.
She is a result-oriented trendsetter with a track solid record of achieving fast and significant improvements in new product development, cost reduction, operational efficiencies, and overall profitability.

Mapula Bodibe

Mapula is a seasoned Telecoms specialist with experience spanning over 22 years. Mapula Bodibe is Chief Executive Officer at MTN Rwandacell PLC. She joined the organization in September 2022.
She is a Chartered Marketer with 17 years of experience in the Telecommunications sector and over 20 years of experience in Commercial Management and Marketing.
Prior to her new role, she was at MTN Rwanda for over five years as the chief consumer officer, a role where she was ardent on growing a compelling customer value preposition.

Mitwa Ng'ambi
CEO, MTN Cameroon
Formerly the MTN Rwanda CEO, Mitwa Ng’ambi is now the CEO of MTN Cameroon. As a transformational leader, Ng’ambi oversaw the listing of MTN Rwanda as well as the establishment of its fintech subsidiary. Prior to this, she worked at MTN Benin and Zambia respectively.
Her new role as CEO took effect in 1st September 2022. Mitwa Ng’ambi has been a member of the MTN family for a cumulative 10 years.

Esther Akinnukawe joined MTN in 2012 as General Manager for Business Partnering and Services, she later became the Human Resources Executive in 2018. Prior to that, she worked at Bain & Company Inc. SA as a Strategy Consultant. Ms. Nwoye also worked at Harvard Kennedy School of Government in the United States as Researcher and Associate at Mercer Management Consulting in San Francisco, California in the summers of 2000 and 2001 respectively. In her early career, she worked as a Senior Field Engineer at Schlumberger (Gabon, Nigeria & Indonesia) from 1995 to 1999.

Lynda Saint-Nwafor

Lynda is a seasoned professional and industry practitioner and a track record of impact on value creation and organizational transformation.
She has over 22 years of experience in the Telecommunications sector, and she is responsible for leading the enterprise and ICT strategy of MTN, guiding the team on technological requirements that will help the telecom giant serve their clients better.
Since joining MTN Nigeria in 2002, Lynda has been on the rise. In 2011, she became the Chief Technical Officer, until June 2016, when she assumed the position of Chief Enterprise Business Officer at MTN Nigeria, where she steers the ship that leads enterprise and ICT strategy in MTN.

Omasan Ogisi
