The Senegalese Space Study Agency (ASES) has agreed to collaborate with SatNav Africa Joint Programme Office (JPO) to unlock the power of space technology in Africa.
According to a statement posted on the Space in Africa website, ASES and SatNav Africa JPO signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to create a comprehensive framework for collaboration in satellite navigation and space applications.
The MoU focuses on fostering innovative business clusters in Senegal and across Africa,” reads part of the statement.
The SatNav Africa JPO champions the development of Satellite Navigation (GNSS/SBAS) services in Africa based on European solutions EGNOS and Galileo.
Shortly after signing the MoU, the two parties outlined a roadmap for the organization’s short-to-medium-term initiatives.
In the highlight of the roadmap, they agree to organise series of webinars will be conducted to educate national entities in the maritime, agricultural, and geospatial sectors on using Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS). Also, there will be awareness campaign to encourage and inspire girls to pursue careers in space science and technology.
Additionally, an international conference on satellite navigation will be organized, to bring together experts and stakeholders worldwide. Also, there will be a hackathon focused on earth observation to drive innovation and practical solutions in this crucial field.

“These initiatives underscore the commitment of both parties to advance satellite navigation technology and space applications, promoting socio-economic development and technological innovation in Senegal and throughout Africa,” further reads the statement.
