In a demonstration of its efforts in promoting and building a sustainable intellectual capacity among Africans, Africa Digital Economy Forum (ADEF) a forum promoting Africa’s digital economy agenda has kicked off its maiden Spelling Bee Competition to support educational development in Africa.
ADEF Spelling Bee Competition is a literacy program to teach students the effective pronunciation of words, their meaning, and proper context of usage in the English Language. The Spelling Bee creates a platform for students from diverse backgrounds including public and private schools to engage and compete fairly in order to emerge as winners of the competition.
The initiative is to ensure sustainability in the education and intellectual capacity development of participants.
Education is a major pillar of continental development and is critical to technology-enabled economies, Africa is targeting an improved Information and Communication Technology (ICT) infrastructure environment with innovative policies, investments, and, regulation, which is aimed at advancing and promoting Africa’s digital economy.
According to the President of ADEF, Teniola Olushola, ADEF Spelling Bee Competition is a literacy program that teaches students not only the accurate pronunciation of words but their corresponding meaning and proper context of usage of the English Language and to enhance their intellectual capacity.
He said “this competition is to teach students accurate pronunciation of words, meanings and proper context of usage in the English Language”
He said the competition is open to children between the age of 9-14 and they can register from any part of Africa. He added that the competition is billed for 10am-12pm every Saturday in August via Google Meet. He informed that numerous prizes would be won at the end of the competition.
