Vodacom M-Pesa Tanzania has partnered with global payments giant PayPal, enabling customers to transfer funds between their M-Pesa wallets and PayPal accounts directly through the M-Pesa Super App,a major boost for Tanzania’s digital economy

The new integration marks a significant milestone in M-Pesa’s global payments expansion, bridging Tanzania’s dominant mobile money platform with one of the world’s most widely used digital payment systems.

For the first time, Tanzanian freelancers, content creators, developers, entrepreneurs, and gig economy workers can deposit funds into their PayPal wallets and withdraw earnings from PayPal straight back into their M-Pesa accounts with speed, security, and convenience.

This development comes at a critical time. As more Tanzanians participate in international freelancing, e-commerce, and remote work, the demand for efficient cross-border payment solutions has surged. Previously, accessing global earnings often involved complicated processes and delays. With this partnership, users can now move money across platforms seamlessly, unlocking easier access to their international income.
Speaking on the collaboration, Acting M-Pesa Director, Tulisindo Mlupilo, highlighted its transformative potential:

“Digital connectivity is creating more opportunities for Tanzanians to participate in the global economy, whether through freelancing, online business, content creation or cross-border commerce. Through this partnership with PayPal, we are making it easier for our customers to send, receive, deposit and access funds across platforms with greater convenience and confidence.”

“By enabling easier transfer of funds between PayPal and M-Pesa through account linking, this partnership will help create a more seamless and convenient cross-border payment experience for customers in Tanzania.”

Customers can access the service by linking their PayPal accounts to their M-Pesa wallets via a simple, guided process within the M-Pesa Super App. The partnership reinforces M-Pesa’s leadership in driving financial innovation and inclusion across Tanzania, while opening new doors for digital commerce and economic participation.
