Global digital economy-focused publication, Digital Economy Magazine has unveiled its Top 20 Digital Economy Leaders who are at the forefront of digitalization in Kenya.

Dubbed “Kenya’s Top 20 Digital Economy Leaders”, the list showcases digital economy personalities who are changing the course and the face of Kenya and Africa’s digital economy landscape.

The list was compiled with a distinct focus on excellence in leadership and performance, professional journey, company transformation, personal accomplishments, and other various factors.

Listed in the Top 20 are seven females and thirteen males which includes; the CEO Huawei, Kenya, Will Meng, Group CEO of Cellulant Kenya, Akshay Grover, Managing Director of Oracle Kenya, David Bunei, Africa Data Centres East Africa Managing Director, Dan Kwach, Mastercard East Africa Country Manager, Shehryar Bakht Ali, Microsoft Kenya Country Manger Phyllis Migwi among others.

Regarded as Africa’s “Silicon Savannah”, Kenya is the digital hub of East Africa, with an ICT sector that accounts for up to 7% of the country’s GDP through digital-enabled services and has become a significant source of economic development and job creation.

With the global shift from a traditional paradigm to digitally enhanced innovative economies, government and private organizations are deploying various technological solutions to drive and enhance their operational demands efficiently.

Findings show that Kenya has some of the best brainbox digital economy technocrats and digital legal frameworks on the continent which include its Digital Economy Blueprint which has contributed to the fast development of the country’s digital economy.

World Bank report of 2019 also shows that Kenya’s technology sector grows an average of 10.8% annually since 2016, becoming a significant source of economic development with spillover effects in almost every sector of the economy.

According to Africa’s iGDP Forecast, Accenture, digital economy is expected to contribute about 9.24% to the Kenya’s GDP by 2025 owing to the country’s Digital Economy Blueprint.

The Top 20 Digital Economy Leaders showcased the best hands in the digital economy industry in the country.

Publisher of Digital Economy Magazine, Mr Akin Naphtal, said that the listing is to identify and celebrate top-level individuals who are promoting digital economy and deploying innovative solutions in Kenya.

The listed individuals were identified based on painstaking research, analysis and reviews of their activities and operations in the digital economy industry in Kenya.”
