Standard Bank Namibia has appointed Allvan Farmer as its new Chief Information Officer (CIO), effective as the bank moves to accelerate its digital and technology transformation agenda.
Farmer brings nearly two decades of experience in banking and financial services across Namibia and the broader Southern African region. His background spans enterprise technology leadership, payments infrastructure, cyber security, and regulatory governance in highly regulated financial environments.
The appointment comes as Standard Bank Namibia intensifies efforts to modernise its technology platforms and strengthen its digital foundations. Farmer has previously led large-scale technology and operational transformation programmes to enhance cyber resilience, modernise operating models, and build scalable digital platforms across multiple African markets.
In Namibia, Farmer has been a notable figure in advancing technology, localisation, and real-time payments innovation. He has served as a Council Member and Non-Executive Director of the Payments Association of Namibia, and contributed to the Bank of Namibia’s Instant Payments Programme — two national initiatives shaping the country’s digital financial infrastructure.

Speaking on his appointment, Farmer said technology sits at the core of how modern banks deliver value and operate at scale, and that he looks forward to strengthening the bank’s digital foundations and building a banking experience that is “secure, efficient, trusted, and built for the future.”
His arrival is expected to bolster Standard Bank Namibia’s senior leadership team as the organisation pursues its long-term strategic priorities in an increasingly competitive and digitally driven financial sector.
