SEACOM, Africa-focused telecom, and managed services provider has broadened its offerings to include colocation and IP transit services via the Equinix-operated JN1 International Business Exchange data center in Johannesburg, South Africa.
This state-of-the-art facility began operations in July 2024 and was officially launched on October 23.
The partnership marks SEACOM’s first venture into providing colocation services within Equinix infrastructure, allowing enterprise clients access to secure, neutral colocation and interconnection services.
SEACOM’s agreement with Equinix aims to offer a robust IT infrastructure environment with dependable power, cooling solutions, multiple layers of integrated security, and service-level agreements ensuring uptime and resilience.
Alongside colocation, SEACOM is providing IP transit and scalable bandwidth services up to 4Gbps from South Africa to Lisbon, Portugal. This low-latency internet connectivity enables customers to connect seamlessly to Europe and other global points of presence, aligning with the growing demand for cloud computing and cloud-based services across Africa.

Santosh Naraidoo, SEACOM’s Colocation Product Manager, highlighted the significance of this collaboration. “We have a longstanding relationship with Equinix, but this is the first time we’re offering colocation services using their infrastructure,” he noted. “South Africa’s colocation landscape is rapidly evolving with new, highly connected data centres like Equinix and the expansion of hosting options in the region.”
Naraidoo emphasized the importance of South Africa’s growing digital infrastructure, driven by an expanding ecosystem of subsea cables and terrestrial connections. He also noted that ongoing challenges, such as load shedding, have amplified demand for colocation services, as more businesses move critical systems off-site to secure, resilient facilities.
