The Saudi Geological Survey (SGS) has launched the Geological Risk Base Platform, the first digital platform aimed at educating the community about natural disasters. The platform will provide important seismic data to the community and expedite the activation of agreements and requests for seismic risk assessment in various locations.
The launch ceremony was held on the sidelines of the 44th meeting of the authority’s Board of Directors and was attended by Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources and Chairman of the Board of Directors of SGS Bandar Alkhorayef, Deputy Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources for Mining Affairs Eng. Khalid Al-Mudayfer, CEO of SGS Eng. Abdullah Al-Shamrani and other senior officials.

According to Tariq Aba Al-Khail, spokesman for SGS, the aim of the platform is to make seismic data available as a “digital electronic page” that includes all information related to seismic data and maps in and around Saudi Arabia. The platform will provide technical solutions to prevent potential risks in the future and support studies to improve infrastructure solutions. It will contain a lot of seismic data that will help support research and spread awareness of geological hazards.
