Kenyan telecommunications giant, Safaricom PLC, has announced a new partnership with premium music service, Mdundo.com to launch an exclusive subscription service, allowing Kenyans to enjoy their favourite DJ mixes for Ksh 5 per day.

This subscription provides Kenyans with an affordable and convenient way to access a wide range of music content. The service is exclusive to Safaricom users, and can be accessed on Mdundo.com website.

Chief Consumer Business Officer, Safaricom PLC, Fawzia Ali, explained that the “goal is to provide Kenyans’ freedom, choice and control over the content they consume, and we are delighted to embark on this journey with Mdundo.com. This is a collaboration that shows our commitment to enhancing the digital music landscape and empowering our customers to enjoy their favourite music with ease and convenience.”

With a Kshs 5 daily subscription, which totals $11 around annually, the service fiercely rivals Spotify and YouTube Music. Mdundo boasts a customer base of 30 million monthly active users, with over 150,000 artists and royalties totalling $1.29 million in 2022.

Mdundo’s CEO, Martin Møller Nielsen, noted that the partnership “reinforces our commitment to enriching lives through music. Together, we are unlocking amazing benefits for music and DJ Mixes enthusiasts. Our collaboration with Safaricom not only enhances the user experience but also underscores our shared vision of making music an integral part of everyday life,”

The partnership will unveil access to a wide library of licensed content for consumers, which will in turn benefit artists as well as build upon the ecosystem. This aligns with Safaricom’s commitment to supporting the sector through platforms such as Skiza and Baze, as well as collaborating with industry leaders.
