Orange France has announced a major partnership with Ericsson to modernise its mobile network infrastructure, aiming to significantly enhance network performance while reducing environmental impact.
Under the renewed four-year agreement, Ericsson will deploy its advanced radio solutions across 60% of France, covering major urban centres including Paris, Toulouse, Bordeaux, Lille, Strasbourg, and Montpellier. The upgrade is set to improve uplink performance—crucial for enabling next-generation 5G applications—and deliver a more seamless user experience.
“This partnership takes a dual approach to improving mobile service performance for our customers while also reducing our energy consumption,” said Jean-François Fallacher, CEO of Orange France. “It marks a vital step towards Orange’s Net Zero goal by 2040.”

The new network will feature Ericsson’s latest multi-band radio technology, which consolidates equipment at each site. This reduces the number of radios needed, resulting in over 20% fewer carbon emissions. Additionally, the upgraded radios are expected to consume 30% less energy compared to previous models.
Ericsson France CEO Christian Leon expressed pride in supporting Orange France’s sustainability ambitions. “This modernisation not only embodies innovation in technology but also our commitment to environmental responsibility,” he said.
“By extending product life cycles and adopting cutting-edge modules early, we’re helping Orange maximise performance and significantly reduce its carbon footprint.”
