Apple has announced that it has launched new versions of its 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Air laptops, equipped with the latest M3 chip as part of the tech giant’s aim to bolster its sales in the Mac segment.
The M3 chip, previously launched in October for iMac desktops and MacBook Pro laptops, promises improved performance and efficiency. Despite reporting modest growth in Mac revenue during its fiscal first-quarter earnings report, Apple anticipates that the new MacBook Air models will help drive sales further.
The latest MacBook Air laptops boast features such as sharper 1080p webcams, support for faster Wi-Fi networks, and a battery life of up to 18 hours. While the design remains unchanged from earlier models, the M3 chip enables users to connect up to two external displays, which is an improvement over previous versions.
Apple’s marketing strategy for the new MacBook Air focuses on its capabilities in artificial intelligence (AI). Dubbed the “world’s best consumer laptop for AI,” the emphasis on AI marks a shift in Apple’s messaging compared to previous product launches. This is part of Apple’s efforts to compete with Windows laptops touted as “AI PCs.”
Apple’s CEO, Tim Cook, has spoken on the company’s significant investments in AI and hinted at a major announcement later this year, possibly during Apple’s Worldwide Developer Conference in June.
The new MacBook Air laptops are priced starting at $1,099 for the 13-inch model and $1,299 for the 15-inch model. They are available for order starting Monday and will be in stores beginning 8th March.
With these updated laptops, Apple aims to appeal to consumers seeking enhanced performance and AI capabilities in their computing devices.
