Wireless infrastructure provider, American Tower, and ProFuturo, the technology-enabled education innovation program of Fundación Telefónica and Fundación “la Caixa”, have partnered to bring educational innovation and technology to underserved communities, starting with 44 schools across Africa and Latin America.
The Managing Director of ProFuturo, Magdalena Brier, and Rodrigo Jimenez Castellanos, Group Head of Public Affairs, Communications and Sustainability of American Tower for EMEA and LatAm, formalised this partnership.
ProFuturo and American Tower share a vision of leveraging technology to improve educational outcomes, bridge the digital divide, and improve the quality of life for individuals in marginalised communities. Through this partnership, they seek to empower students and teachers, ensuring equitable participation in the digital world.
CEO of ATC Kenya, George Odenyo, noted that the project was aligned with ATC Kenya’s vision of a more connected Kenya. He explained, “we constantly work with key partners to ensure that our Digital Communities are well equipped to employ the use of technology for digital equity and literacy, as well as career upskilling which are geared towards enhancing the lives of community members,”.
Magdalena Brier expressed her enthusiasm for the partnership, noting its potential to address the digital divide and improve educational opportunities for vulnerable populations. She remarked, “the alliance between ProFuturo and American Tower is a big step to improve educational opportunities for the most vulnerable.”
SVP Legal & Chief Sustainability Officer of American Tower Corporation, Mneesha Nahata, stressed the importance of digital transformation in education, stating, “there is no alternative to the necessary digital transformation and drive for digital education.” She highlighted the partnership’s role in supporting underprivileged communities with connectivity and technology.
Rodrigo Jiménez echoed these sentiments, stating, “at American Tower, we want to support growth in Africa and Latin America with our Digital Communities program so that, together, we continue to build a more connected world.”
Aligned with the United Nations Global Compact and the Sustainable Development Goals, American Tower and ProFuturo share a common goal of enhancing access to quality education to reduce poverty and inequality.
