Phillip Nganga plans to drive growth by taking a customer-focused approach. He said the company will prioritise understanding customers’ businesses, goals and future needs before recommending technology solutions, while also helping customers and partners better understand emerging technologies.

East Africa continues to present strong opportunities as investment grows across digital infrastructure, cybersecurity, enterprise technology and energy. Governments, financial institutions, telecom companies, manufacturers, and oil and gas businesses are increasingly seeking technology solutions that can support economic development and digital transformation.

Nganga identified Uganda, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Tanzania, Ethiopia and Rwanda as key markets with opportunities for deeper engagement. He stressed the importance of increasing NEC Africa’s visibility in these markets by strengthening its local workforce and expanding its network of partners.

According to Nganga, greater regional visibility will allow NEC Africa to provide customers with not only reliable technology solutions but also the long-term support and engagement associated with the NEC brand. The company aims to build stronger relationships with customers across East Africa as it expands its portfolio.

NEC Africa’s focus on local leadership is also central to its growth strategy. Gary Munro, VP African Operations, said Nganga’s appointment recognises his growth and contributions during his years with NEC while reflecting the company’s commitment to developing African talent and building a business led by Africans.

Nganga’s appointment follows William Hunter’s move into the Chief Operating Officer (COO) role, where his technical and project management experience will strengthen NEC Africa’s delivery capabilities, particularly as the company prepares for a major East African project. Nganga’s broader ambition is to position NEC Africa as the partner of choice in East Africa through stronger local engagement, partnerships and an expanded technology portfolio.
