Mastercard has partnered with Busha, a pan-African digital asset exchange, to extend Mastercard Crypto Credential across the continent, aiming to bring greater trust and simplicity to digital asset transfers.
With immediate effect, all eligible Busha users in Nigeria can now access a unique Crypto Credential alias, growing the network of verified users and making it simpler to send and receive cryptocurrency across exchanges and wallets participating in the Crypto Credential ecosystem.
Through this partnership, Busha becomes one of the first digital asset exchanges in Africa to enable Crypto Credential for its users, underscoring both companies’ shared commitment to making digital asset transactions more trusted, straightforward and accessible.

Mastercard Crypto Credential gives users added assurance that their funds are reaching a verified recipient, by linking them to endpoints that meet Mastercard’s verification standards. It also does away with long, complex blockchain addresses in favour of a simple, verified alias that users can easily share to receive digital assets. Before any transaction goes through, the system checks that the recipient is able to receive that specific digital asset on the intended blockchain, helping to reduce failed or misdirected transfers.
Gabriel Swanepoel, Division President, Africa at Mastercard, said digital asset transfers should feel just as intuitive and trustworthy as other digital payment methods. He explained that Mastercard Crypto Credential gives users and institutions confidence that they are sending funds to verified endpoints, while simplifying the process through easy-to-use aliases. He added that partnering with Busha, one of Nigeria’s leading digital asset platforms, means every verified Busha user can now be reached using just their email or phone number, supporting responsible innovation and the development of secure, trusted digital asset infrastructure across Africa.
These aliases function across all participating exchanges and wallets within the Crypto Credential ecosystem, allowing Busha users to transact not only among themselves but also with users on other supported platforms.
Since verification is handled at the platform level, eligible Busha users won’t need to complete any extra setup, their Crypto Credential is issued automatically as part of their existing Busha account.
Michael Adeyeri, Co-Founder and CEO of Busha, said the company’s focus is on making digital assets more practical, accessible and trustworthy for everyday users, and that the collaboration with Mastercard supports that goal directly. He noted that enabling users to transact via verified aliases makes the experience simpler and more intuitive, while upholding the security and compliance standards users expect from Busha. He added that Busha is proud to bring this capability to Nigeria and to support the responsible growth of Africa’s digital asset ecosystem.
As digital assets continue gaining traction across Africa for investment, remittances and cross-border commerce, trusted and user-friendly infrastructure will play a key role in accelerating mainstream adoption. The rollout of Mastercard Crypto Credential reflects Busha’s wider mission to make digital finance more intuitive, accessible and secure for everyday users.
