Tanzania aims to achieve 80% broadband penetration by 2025 through the Digital Tanzania project, supported by the World Bank and in partnership with mobile network operators. The project will extend broadband services to 713 wards, benefiting over 8.5 million Tanzanians in 1,407 villages. The signing ceremony took place in Dodoma, where President Samia Suluhu Hassan expressed her appreciation for the collaboration between public and private organizations in implementing development projects.

President Suluhu emphasized the significance of the project, highlighting its potential to accelerate development, promote inclusivity and enhance the safety and security of the nation. She also emphasized the positive impact on rural businesses, enabling farmers to access information and expand their markets. The government intends to promote the use of smartphones and improve telecommunication services, including in the health sector through telemedicine initiatives such as the successful m-mama program.
