The Senegalese Government has until further notice suspended access to the popular social media platform TikTok has been suspended by Senegal.
The country’s communications minister announced this decision after already limiting mobile internet use due to opposition protests. The minister’s statement highlighted concerns about the app being used by individuals with malicious intentions to disseminate hateful and subversive messages, posing a threat to the nation’s stability.

Earlier, the Senegalese government restricted internet services, citing the need to control the spread of harmful content on social media. These restrictions followed the charging of opposition leader Ousmane Sonko with offenses related to plotting an insurrection and criminal conspiracy.
Throughout the year, Senegal has experienced sporadic violent protests as opposition supporters accuse President Macky Sall of politically motivated charges against Sonko to disqualify him from future elections.
